Wendy Wergeles at Rolex KentuckyTrainer-In-Residence

We are happy to have Wendy Wergeles ( wjw@syv.com ) as trainer-in-residence at Cottonwood Ranch. Wendy is currently dividing her teaching and training schedule between the Flintridge Riding Club and Cottonwood Ranch where she is based with Caliban (SWB/TB), an Intermediate level Event Horse co-owned by Kathleen Giovenco of Middleburg, VA, and Ten (App. QH), a promising 3 year old co-owned by Marianne McRae of Phoenix, AZ.

She has competed throughout the US and Canada through the Advanced level in eventing. Her horse Torque was awarded the 1994 AHSA Zone 10 Advanced Level Reserve Championship in eventing as well as the 1993 Area X lntermediate Championship. Wendy currently trains with Don Sachey at his Raintree Ranch in Goleta, CA, and has ridden with Capt. Mark Phillips, Christine Scarlett, Karen O'Connor, Mike Huber, Jack Le Goff, Jimmy Wofford, Andrew and Paul Popiel, J. Michael Plumb, Richard Meade, Bev Rogers, Gwen Stockebrand, Gerhard Politz, Victor Hugo-Vidal and Anne Kursinski.

As an instructor/trainer, Wendy has been based at many fine facilities including: Shadowfax (home of the world's smallest cross-country course) and Silk Purse Ranch, both in Las Vegas, NV; Goose Downs ~, Galisteo, NM; Brusally Ranch, Scottsdale, AZ; Hobeau Farm (a thoroughbred training and breeding farm where she also raced quarterhorses), Ocala, FL; Brown Ledge Camp, Mallett's Bay, VT and Pondeverda in Dunham, PQ, Canada where, as a working student, she made the transition from riding hunters and jurnpers with Frank and WayneCarroll at Secor farms in White Plains, NY to eventing. As an instructor, she has had students qualify and compete m the North American Continental Young Rider's Championship and coached the Area X team in 1987, although her motivation is the commitment from her students, regardless of their competitive goals or level of riding ability. She maintains a clinic schedule throughout the western USA.

Wendy has recently received her American Horse Shows Association "r" license as an Eventing judge and has had an AHSA "R" Technical Delegate's license for over ten years.

She has been the organizer of the Las Vegas Horse Trials and the Silk Pu.rse Ranch Horse Trials and been active on the organizing committees of the Goose Downs Farm Horse Trials, The Event at the Downs, Brusally Ranch Horse Trials, Coconino County Horse Trials, Flying Fox Farm Horse Trials, the Quebec Championships and the Eastern Townships Horse Trials.

Wendy was a founding director of the Las Vegas Equestrian Events, Inc., The Injured Riders Fund and the Eastern Townships Children's Horse Events. She is a past member of the Board of Governors of the United States Combined Training Association and the Southern Nevada Hunter Jumper Association and currently publishes Focus on Sport Horses, a sales brochure and website:

Wendy's lesson and training rates:

Lessons (no additional schooling fee payable to Cottonwood Ranch):

Private approx. one hour:  $50
             approx. one-half hour:  35
Semi-private (2 students) - approx. one hour:  40
Group (3-5 students) - approx. one hour:  35

Training:

Monthly - Horse worked and groomed 5 days per week:  $450
Weekly - Horse worked and groomed 5 days consecutively: 175
Daily - Horse worked approx. one hour:  50

Boarding:

Horses in full training:  $500/month
Otherwise, $20/day or:  600/month
